Langley Sharp MBE is the former head of the Centre for Army Leadership, responsible for championing leadership excellence across the British Army. His career as an Officer in the Parachute Regiment included operational command at every rank and he deployed to Northern Ireland, Macedonia, Afghanistan and Iraq. Among his many varied roles, Langley led a counter-insurgency Task Force operation, commanded a Parachute Regiment Battalion and delivered the Ministry of Defence’s training programme for the London 2012 Olympics venue security, for which he was awarded an MBE. Langley is the author of the British Army’s official account of leadership, The Habit of Excellence. He is also the Founder and Director of the consultancy firm, Frontier Leadership.
What words of advice would you give to your younger military self?
Keep a diary and capture your life experiences in the moment. You’ll never regret looking back, reflecting, learning and re-living.
What inspires you about RFS?
The determination, resolve and ambition of such a talented community. Leading from the front.
What are you most proud of?
The privilege of leading soldiers on operations. Life defining (and hugely positive) experiences.
